Novices

Congratulations, you have taken your First NOVICE Step in selecting this site to help you to guide you to avoid costly mistakes in your initial experiences in internet poker! Steps 1 - 7 will focus on Preparation, Supplies, Poker Sites, Software, Videos and Books selected to help the Novice Poker Player.  In Step One you will find 11 basic lessons on video to begin your journey: How to Play Texas Holdem, Poker Hand Rankings, Poker Terms, Betting, Tournament Rules, Pot Odds, Position, Common Mistakes, Implied Odds, and Basic Tips.    The Second Step has options a free coaching site, and sites that have free simulating software for your poker playing practice. The Third Step provides a free download tool that will be always useful to you - a hand replayer of your games. The Fourth Novice Step re-visits basic lessons on video. The Fifth Novice Step recommends essential books for you to study. In the Sixth Novice Step, We recommend you practice your game with your own simulator. In the Seventh Step we provide sources for you to "Test" your knowledge and to receive recommendations where to fill the gaps in your game as well as numerous video lessons and articles for you to learn from- we will be adding new topics weekly. There is an Eight Step - this step is individual, and when you are ready, contact us for a "tailor-made" guide.

Second NOVICE Step: Choose one or more of the following internet sites for now and as your skills develop, add to these sites from the selection in our poker site page. Our reasoning is explained briefly for each of our recommendations. The choice is yours to make. (Should  you have further questions, please feel free to contact us )

My HoldemTips: This site will give you Personal Coaching for Free! You will receive 2 free lessons (each 45 minutes long). In the first lesson you will play at a free “sit & go” Texas Holdem tournament and in the second lesson you will play in a "small stakes" Texas Holdem tournament table. In both situations their teacher will guide you through your game, discussing with you your options (Ex: Which hands to play? How to play them? How to get the biggest pot?). Uncover the strategies of professional players from their lessons and learn what makes a big player BIG!  -  Just let them know that "tamas" sent you.

LuckyAcePoker: This site has both a practice table for the novice and some very good articles and poker strategy guides for learning poker. You download their poker table, you log in and choose practice(not play money), you decide if you want a ring game table, or tournaments to practice, and you click on any table that is available. \When you are ready and decide to open a cash account, they will give you a free calculator - The Pokerbility.

Everest Poker:  Everest Poker offers an exclusive online poker training room to its players. They feel it's the best way to help newcomers to the game become familiar with the rules of multi-player hold em poker. Using their training room is fun, easy, and doesn't have any of the pressure of playing poker with real people. You'll learn how to play poker by playing against their poker training robots. This means you can take time to learn their poker game controls and how the game of poker flows. You can use their online poker training room as often as you'd like and whenever you wish to learn how to play poker.

Third NOVICE Step: Poker Tools and Software
UNIVERSAL REPLAYER: Replays your hand histories or Create and Study Hand Situations.

POKERSTOVE: Determining the odds in a game like no-limit Texas Hold'em can require some complicated calculations. There are many poker programs that can calculate poker odds. Most of these poker simulators use general purpose algorithms to perform the poker odds calculations. This generic approach doesn't take advantage of the full range of possible optimizations. To explore the effect of global optimizations, a preflop evaluator which can fully enumerate complex preflop situations was developed. PokerStove is the result of this work. PokerStove is a poker calculator for Texas Hold'em. It is currently available free of charge, with no spyware, spam or other annoyances. Read More

The Poker Sharpener tool will help you as you play(in real-time) to learn the odds of winning a given hand, and will help you in suggesting which situations are probably best to avoid and you will learn as you use the tool the number of outs you have with your cards (i.e. the number of cards that may yet come to help your hand). The Poker Sharpener is  a calculator, real-time game analyzer, tracker, HUD, and post game analyzer-  it will provide statistics on your game and your opponents, odds, outs, The "M/X/K" factor, and much more. This tool will help you in positional considerations, strategy considerations based on your chip size, and in reading your opponents. You will have the use of stunning visual charts of your games as a record of your games and for studying how your game could improve.  Read More on the two ways to obtain this must have tool -either free for a year or by yearly subscription.

Online Poker Odds Calculator and Tracking Tool

Fourth NOVICE Step: This is where it is time for you to use some of the free resources available to you to develop your understanding of poker strategy, concepts of winning styles of play, positional advantages, betting, bluffing tactics, reading your opponents,  and how to change your style of play depending on your level in any given tournament or in your chip size.  Now is also the time to learn various tactics employed in a given situation --- the squeeze play, the continuation bet, and the like.  Videos are available for you to watch and learn from, and you may as well obtain them for free for now. Later, you may want to selectively purchase some books, DVDs, and other recognized methods to bring your game to a very advanced level. We have created a Special YouTube Channel just for you to watch and learn. We also recommend you search YouTube for topics of interest to you or open up the following link to our collection of YouTube videos  http://www.youtube.com/user/pokertrainingtrnmnts

Fifth NOVICE Step: This is now the time to invest in one or more books to deepen your understanding of poker strategy and tactics and the fundamentals of the game.  Here are a number of choices for you. Phil Gordon's Little Green Book is in our opinion your very best first choice, from only $3.18 . Tournament Poker: 101 Winning Moves has More than Just the Moves, it has Insights:The Truth About Tells, How to Vary Your Bet Size,  How to Improve Your Hand-Reading Ability, When to Move All-in, How to Set a Trap and Pick Off a Bluff. Exceptional Value at a Cost of only $9.95 for the e-book."Secrets of Winning", a  e-course , is comprised of seven (7) brief, but very focused, lessons that will have you placing in the top 3 within its first day of use, and often winning your first tournament in less than one week (sometimes within just a few days or hours). Learn how to adjust your strategies and tactics based on your chip stack in relation to the Big Blind.Cost of $29.95. Finally, Harrington on Holdem is "The" Book for understanding the fundamental theories, the strategies and the tactics of the game, from only $14.89.

Sixth NOVICE Step: Our very best advice is that the Novice take some time to practice what has been learned so far before making any financial commitments. We have selected 4 software tools for practice and learning. These simulators will provide you with the best training and practice.
